Hot off the presses, here is another installment of MXYZPTLK. This time the music accompaniment to Pete & Cory is done by myself (bass), Lee Eschliman (drums) and Adrian Rosario (guitar). I have only finished mixing one track, but here it is:
Here is the second installment of improv recordings done while I lived in San Francisco. This one is actually the first King Rubby recording experiment, which lead up to recording the Garden of Eden (previous post). Rubby had formulated a hypothesis, and asked Chris Davis-Slade and myself to help perform the experiment. Uncharacteristically, I am playing drums on these tracks… which lead to my nickname “The Sloppitist” for the recordings. Regardless, I think some of the beats are dope Enjoy!
I was out in San Francisco for a client work session last week and didn’t post anything. I have decided to make up for it with 2 posts this week which feature recordings that were done while I lived out in San Francisco in 1999 - 2000.
The first post in my San Francisco series is King Rubby in The Garden of Eden. This entire recording was one completely improvised day of playing, then another day mixing down (while Chris-O created the CD Artwork).
The idea behind this recording was to emulate the great King Tubby, whose style it was to let musicians run wild in the studio then freak out the mix in post-production. The musicians never knew what the final outcome would sound like. However, to take it a step further, King Rubby took the live effected mixes and ran it back into the musicians’ headphones so that they could not only play off each other, but also the King Rubby effected mix.
