This piece is another example of improvised music that was later edited together to become a coherent piece. This is actually the only recording of significance that I did while living at 19th & Pine in Philadelphia. In 2001, I got together with Jace Masula and Leif Carney for a freakout session. I had worked with Jace in the internet realm, and was a fan of his music, but hadn’t jammed with him before. Leif, on the other hand, I had freaked out with a million times before (I played in The Electric Subconscious with him, and we even lived together for a year). After the session was over, I decided to edit it all down into this one long song.
The idea behind the song is that it is the distant future, and robots are trying to take over the world. Louis, an unlikely hero who had joined the Human Alliance to fight the robots, gets captured and is locked up for interrogation. While behind enemy lines, he meets a sympathetic Fembot that he falls in love with. The Fembot, who before the War was programmed to care for humans, is able to resist her new programming and helps Louis escape. Just as they make it to saftey, riding off into the sunset, young Louis wakes up and realizes it was all just a dream (of course it was). Enjoy!
As Scotchberg awaits the return of Anton Mahne, and URANUS took the week off, I had the opportunity to play with some new fellas… James Van Arsdale and Pete Radocaj are both coworkers of mine over at WebLinc. James plays drums, and Pete raps. He brought along his buddy Cory, and here is what happened. I think James and I were a little sluggish due to the fact that it was the hottest day of the year so far, and I don’t have any air conditioning in the jam space. It was brutal… but much fun nonetheless.
I am posting 3 songs today (July 14) but I may add others as I mix down more of this session.
This is one of my favorite improvisational rock pieces I have been a part of. This recording happened on August 24, 2003. I am playing 6-string guitar, and a lot of the lead lines, while Adrian is writing the rhythm with my 12-string, pushing the rhythm forward with Lee on the drums. I think Adrian trudged through this entire session with a busted up fingernail that was falling off his finger - a result of slamming it shut in the Astrocade WonkaVator.
