Archive for the Peter Schroeck Category

Well, I guess 8 months isn’t exactly a “short” break, but one that was definitely needed. However, I now feel up to the challenge of posting another 50 pieces of improvisational music.  One thing I really look forward to this year is going back though the ADAT 8-Track recordings I have from my Astrocade days. This has been made possible by a grant from Red Attic Studios… my friend Joe Castro was nice enough to lend me a fully functioning ADAT like the one I used to always record on in those days. Mine broke :(  I hope to be able to intersperse these ADAT archives with new excursions.

I wanted to start off this year with a collection of Karma Canon recordings that Lee put together. It is basically a mix of early material that Lee assembled into a collection for some of his friends. I like the “Old Library” look of the artwork :) Although these recordings seem like they were a forever ago, the oldest one is probably only 8 years old.

I have posted the tracks below, but you can also DOWNLOAD A ZIP FILE of this entire mix.

Enjoy!

This post is a tribute to Michael Miller’s fortitude. When Off The Wagon got together last week, I was joking with Michael about how much he hated me when we first started playing together. Back in 2002, Michael was a friend that Lee brought around to jam with Peter Schroeck and me. One of the first times we played together is this post from December 3, 2002. Michael absolutely hated my vocal stylings (actually, I guess it was more the content of the vocals) and didn’t come back to jam for quite some time. After he did, I was more sensitive to his seriosity and we played mostly instrumentals as Karma Canon… and we are still playing to this day! So, Michael, I am glad you stuck it out, and I look forward to more Karma Canon and Off The Wagon sessions in the future! This post, as previously mentioned, is a tribute to your fortitude!

These 3 ditties were recorded on October 12, 2007. Peter came down from NJ, Lee & Michael were also in full effect. Adrian came over later in the night, but I haven’t mixed down that part of the session yet, so all of these bits contain Lee on Drums, Michael on Guitar, Peter on his “GuiBass” String-thing instrument (a modified guitar laced with bass strings), and myself on bass, keys, and vocals. Anyway, I hope you enjoy yet another Karma Canon installation! Artwork stolen from here

Well, I figured I would keep the Karma Canon posts flowing. This was actually the most recent Karma Canon recording, taking place on April 20, 2007. It is much harder to get together now that Peter lives in N.J. and has 2 kids, but I am very excited about the session we have coming up on October 12.

This recording was done just 3 days after the previous post, on March 18, 2003, and has Peter Schroeck returning to guitar.

This album artwork was borrowed from Robert L. Schrag - the original artwork is posted here. This guy does some pretty interesting writing as well - check out his Wall Notes page. This artwork accompanied a posting he did about First Drafts on July 10, 2005. This is fitting because Karma Canon (as well as Freak of the Week) is all about First Drafts!
